During our visit to Taichung (Taiwan), I was a little surprised that our first stop wasn't any traditional Chinese restaurant as I had expected but a chef's table, featuring modern French cuisine at that. It turned out to be a great experience - life is full of unexpected delights like that 😄

Founded in 1995, Giverny‘s Kitchen (affiliated with Crescent Moon Cooking Academy) hosts chef's table meals. Chef's table at Giverny‘s Kitchen is a delicious and enriching experience - we enjoyed fine food while watching the chef in action, asking him questions, learning about our meal.

We sat comfortably around an open concept island kitchen. All the ingredients were laid on the kitchen top. The chef prepared the dish, explaining it to us as he cooked our meal. Everyone enjoyed the relaxed, casual ambiance.

The chef's table menu hangs at the front door outside. Breakfast costs NT$288 per pax, lunch NT$488 per pax and dinner NT$1500+ per pax. Besides chef's table, Giverny‘s Kitchen conducts cooking lessons daily as Crescent Moon Cooking Academy.

Chef Yang has 12 years of experience in French cuisine and cooking techniques.

It's spongy mushrooms and crunchy leafy vegetables grown in Giverny‘s Kitchen own garden and from local farmers. The lightly sauteed vegetables were simply dressed with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Nice!

Our second course. Prawns wrapped in a ribbon of streaky bacon, pan seared and then smothered in cheese.

Chef Yang prepares our first main dish of pan fried duck breasts 香煎櫻桃鴨胸.

Chef Yang fried the duck breasts by patiently splashing them with hot melted butter.

Thick slices of tender juicy duck breasts with a strip of fatty skin attached. Natural sweetness and a subtle gaminess filled the mouth when we chewed on the tender juicy duck breast slices. Duck is one of my favourite meats.
