Hungry in JB today and remembering that Jingle Bell in Johor Jaya serves bak kut teh, we dropped by at the little shop for lunch.

Jingle Bell doesn't specialise in any particular dish - it's a humble shop lot eatery that sells a little of everything from porridge, to "economy rice", sesame oil chicken, red rice wine mee suah, BKT etc to keep it a viable business.

Many things are prepared fresh at Jingle Bell in small amounts just enough for the day's needs. Fresh makes everything tastes better 😋

Two of us, we ordered 2 one-person servings of pork ribs and mixed meat with offals in 2 separate clay pots.

The dark coloured broth was watery with mild or (for me) just right savoury, sweet, herbal taste.

The pork was fresh and cooked till tender to the bite. Sweet gently porky juices flowed out from between the soft fibres with each bite.

Jingle Bell doesn't have the big crushing crowds of big name bak kut teh shops, so there is time to attentively prepare the food in small portions. Jingle Bell's bak kut teh is pleasing and nice, something we felt comfortable with and enjoy like home cooking.

After the BKT, we still had a little stomach space left, so we ordered a bowl of red rice wine mee suah.

The sweet tangy broth made with red rice wine has a full body and spicy notes from generous amounts of julienned ginger.

The chunks of fresh chicken were tender and had nice chicky taste. The mee suah was a little overdone, soft and soggy (perhaps because I took too long to take photos 😝).

3-Star (out of 5). From the dishes that I have tried so far at Jingle Bell, I recommend their bak kut teh, porridge, and yellow wine chicken☜ click. The BKT broth though watery has the right balance of savoury, sweet and herbal flavour. The pork is fresh and (to me) cooked to the right doneness, so it is tender and naturally sweet.
