Curious Palette Prinsep Street Singapore CLOSED

When I reached Curious Palette at 64 Prinsep Street, I spent 5 minutes walking around here and could not find the cafe. I then called Benson (my host) for help and he emerged from that white shop lot on the left.

I am not really to blame for being lost ;-p You see, this is all Curious Palette has for their signboard ;-D You can't see this signboard from the street level and it is nearly hidden by a balding potted plant with shrivelled leaves.

Pushing pass the heavy steel and glass doors, we entered into a long and narrow room where the use of natural light and space, the aromas, and vibes reminded of cafes in Manhattan.

Sweating from walking in the mid-day sun, I like it already as I make my way to my table.

Benson started me off with Pan Seared Sous Vide Salmon from Curious Palette's all-day brunch menu.

I wasn't too excited at first as I just had a couple of less than delicious salmon dishes in Singapore and Johor, but went along out of courtesy for my host.

Well, my worries were unfounded.

There were many flavours on this plate and it all came together deliciously well.

The perfectly poached egg.

The runny egg went very well with the sous vide salmon which was pan seared to a slight crisp outside. Inside, the slab of pink flesh was still moist and tender. Together, egg and fish was a perfect match for the curious palate.

The buttery scone was so delicious when slathered with a dollop of guacamole (creamy avocado dip). The pan fried halloumi cheese, half dried cherry tomatoes and generous bed of rocket greens added flavours and texture to the dish.

We next had chicken rice - well, it's Curious Palette's unique interpretation of that Singapore food icon.

It's a large chicken leg seasoned with ginger and prepared confit style. The confit chicken leg is paired with pumpkin risotto. The dish is splashed with chili foam.

The confit leg was crispy outside. There were hints of ginger in the moist and tender flesh inside. The chili foam added a bit of mild spiciness. I like the confit chicken leg.

The pumpkin risotto was a little sweeter and softer than my personal preference. Sweetness dominated the dish, overshadowing the more delicate flavours of the confit chicken leg and chili foam.

Finally, Benson let me try the popular Berry Ricotta Hotcake which is a spongy buttery cake dressed with halved strawberries, blueberries, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds and a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

We poured in the whole cup of golden maple syrup :-D

Love this buttery bouncy warm hotcake eaten together with the cold vanilla ice cream. The pillowy hotcake had just the right sweetness even with the whole cup of maple syrup. The strawberries, blueberries and nutty seeds added more flavours and textures to the dish.

This is a Must Try at Curious Palette.

Curious Palette is pretty strong in the coffee department as it is the younger sibling of the well established Strangers' Reunion cafe.

Barista Dylan is in the house today :-D

My usual flat white. It was a good balance of Arabica flavour with milk in a nice, smooth round body. I enjoyed this.

When I am in the Prinsep Street area and looking for a place to chill out, Curious Palette will be at the top of my mind. The coffee is good, the extensive menu is innovative, and the well executed dishes are prettily presented. The space and ambiance are also just the kind I am looking for.
